So, what is a poireaux?
A poireaux, also known as leeks, is a vegetable that belongs to the Allium family, which includes onions and garlic. It has a long, slender white stem with flat, dark green leaves on top. Poireaux have a mild, sweet onion flavor and a crunchy texture. They are an excellent source of dietary fiber, vitamins, and minerals. This versatile ingredient can be used in a variety of dishes, from soups and stews to salads and stir-fries. When selecting poireaux, look for firm, unblemished stems with bright green leaves.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
