So, what is carmins?
Carmins are a natural food colorant derived from the dried bodies of female cochineal insects. These tiny insects are found on cacti in Central and South America, where they have been harvested for centuries. Carmins provide a bright red hue that is commonly used in foods such as candy, yogurt, and beverages. Due to their natural origin, carmins are considered a safe alternative to synthetic dyes. However, some individuals may be sensitive to carmins and experience allergic reactions. As a result, food manufacturers must clearly label products containing carmins to inform consumers of their presence.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
