So, what is macis?
Macis, also known as mace, is a spice derived from the aril or outer covering of the nutmeg seed. The aril is removed from the nutmeg and dried, resulting in a yellowish-brown spice with a distinctive warm and slightly sweet flavor. Macis has a similar aroma to nutmeg, but is slightly more delicate and floral, making it a popular ingredient in baked goods, stews, and curries. It's also used in some traditional medicine practices for its purported digestive and anti-inflammatory properties. In the kitchen, macis is often ground and added to recipes for its unique flavor and beautiful golden color.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
