So, what is polysorbates?
Polysorbates are a group of emulsifiers made from sorbitol, a sugar alcohol derived from corn starch. They are commonly used in the food industry to mix together ingredients that would otherwise not blend, such as oil and water. Polysorbates are also used to stabilize the texture and appearance of many processed foods, such as ice cream, salad dressings, and baked goods. In addition to their food applications, polysorbates can also be found in a variety of personal care products, including cosmetics, lotions, and shampoos. Due to their versatility and effectiveness, polysorbates are a widely used ingredient in many consumer products.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
