So, what is 'dextrose?
Dextrose is a simple sugar that is chemically identical to glucose. It is a common ingredient in many processed foods and beverages as a sweetener, and is also used as a carbohydrate supplement in sports drinks and other energy products. Dextrose is derived from corn starch and has a high glycemic index, meaning it can cause a rapid spike in blood sugar levels. While it provides quick energy, it is not recommended for individuals with diabetes or those watching their sugar intake. Dextrose is also used in medical settings as a source of energy for patients who are unable to eat.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
