So, what is azucares de cana?
Azúcares de caña is a Spanish term that refers to the sugar derived from sugarcane. This natural sweetener is a popular ingredient in Latin American and Caribbean cuisine, and is often used to add flavor and sweetness to dishes like desserts, sauces, and marinades. Unlike refined white sugar, azúcares de caña is minimally processed and retains some of the molasses and minerals found in sugarcane. This gives it a richer flavor and slightly darker color than regular sugar. Azúcares de caña is also considered a more sustainable and ethical choice than other types of sugar, as it supports small-scale sugarcane farmers and promotes biodiversity.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
