So, what is banha?
Banha is a traditional ingredient of Portuguese cuisine that has been used for centuries. Also known as lard, it is made from pig fat and has a smooth, creamy texture that melts easily at room temperature. Banha is commonly used in cooking to add flavor and moisture to dishes, especially meats and stews. Its rich taste and versatility make it a staple ingredient in many Portuguese recipes, including the famous cozido à portuguesa. Despite being high in saturated fat, banha is still enjoyed by many as an essential part of the country's culinary heritage.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
