So, what is bht to preserve freshness?
BHT, or butylated hydroxytoluene, is a common food preservative that is added to products to maintain their freshness and extend their shelf life. This synthetic antioxidant is particularly effective at preventing rancidity in oils and fats, which can occur when they are exposed to air or light. BHT works by slowing down the oxidation process, which helps to prevent the breakdown of essential nutrients and flavors. Although BHT has been approved for use by the FDA, some consumers have raised concerns about its safety and potential health risks. However, numerous studies have found no evidence of adverse effects from BHT consumption at typical levels.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
