So, what is bicarbonate d'ammonium?
Bicarbonate d'ammonium, also known as ammonium bicarbonate, is a white crystalline powder commonly used as a leavening agent in baking. It has a slightly ammoniacal odor and is highly soluble in water. When heated, it releases carbon dioxide gas, which helps dough rise and gives baked goods a light, fluffy texture. Bicarbonate d'ammonium is often used in traditional European baked goods such as cookies, crackers, and flatbreads. It is also sometimes used as a cleaning agent and in the production of fire extinguishers. However, it is important to use caution when handling bicarbonate d'ammonium, as it can be harmful if ingested or inhaled in large quantities.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
