So, what is carragenina?
Carrageenan, also known as carragenina, is a natural ingredient derived from red seaweed. This soluble fiber is commonly used in food production as a thickener, stabilizer, and emulsifier. It has a wide range of applications, including dairy products, processed meats, and even toothpaste. Carrageenan is known for its ability to create a smooth and creamy texture, making it a popular ingredient in ice cream and other desserts. Despite some controversy surrounding its safety, carrageenan has been deemed safe for consumption by regulatory agencies around the world.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
