So, what is carraghenane?
Carrageenan is a food ingredient that comes from red seaweed, and is widely used in the food industry as a thickener, stabilizer, and emulsifier. It is commonly found in dairy products like ice cream, yogurt, and cream cheese, as well as in plant-based milks, processed meats, and other foods. Carrageenan has a unique ability to bind with proteins and form a gel-like substance, which helps to improve the texture and mouthfeel of foods. Despite some concerns about its safety, carrageenan is generally considered safe for consumption in small amounts.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
