So, what is cetyl ammonium?
Cetyl ammonium is a quaternary ammonium compound with a long hydrophobic tail that is commonly used in the production of personal care products, such as shampoos, conditioners, and body washes. This ingredient has the ability to effectively remove dirt and oil from hair and skin, while also providing conditioning benefits. It is a surfactant that has a positive charge, which helps it to bond with negatively charged particles, making it an effective cleanser. Cetyl ammonium is also used in the development of pharmaceuticals, dyes, and industrial coatings. However, it should be noted that this ingredient can be irritating to the skin and eyes in high concentrations.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
