CI 77400 is the Colour Index classification for copper powder, an inorganic metallic pigment used to produce bronze, reddish, or metallic finishes. It is derived from naturally occurring mineral ores containing elemental copper. Manufacturers refine these ores through smelting and chemical purification, after which the purified metal is mechanically atomized or milled into a fine powder suitable for use as a colorant. While it is predominantly listed in cosmetics such as eye makeup, lip products, and nail polishes, it can occasionally appear in specialty decorative coatings for confectionery or food packaging materials.
This ingredient is vegan because it is entirely mineral in origin. The production process relies strictly on geological extraction and metallurgical refining techniques, requiring no animal-derived ingredients, tissues, or processing aids at any stage of manufacturing.
