So, what is clove powder?
Clove powder is an aromatic spice produced by finely grinding the dried, unopened flower buds of the clove tree, an evergreen plant botanically known as Syzygium aromaticum. The production process begins with harvesting mature buds, which are subsequently dried in the sun or through mechanical dehydrators until they develop a deep brown color and brittle texture. Once dried, the buds are milled into a fine, consistent powder. Food manufacturers frequently list clove powder as a flavoring agent in items such as curry powders, pumpkin pie spice mixes, baked goods, marinades, pickled foods, and spiced teas.
clove powder is vegan because it originates entirely from a plant source and involves no animal components. The processing methods used to create the spice rely strictly on drying and mechanical grinding of botanical material. Standard production does not require any animal-derived processing aids, carriers, or refining agents. As a result, pure clove powder contains no animal byproducts and is consistently suitable for a vegan diet.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
