So, what is dried yeast?
Dried yeast is a pantry staple commonly used as a leavening agent in baking. Made from a single-celled fungus, Saccharomyces cerevisiae, it is dried and packaged into granules or powder form. The yeast ferments sugar in dough, producing carbon dioxide gas that creates air pockets, resulting in the rise of bread and other baked goods. Dried yeast has a longer shelf life than fresh yeast and can be stored at room temperature until ready to use. It adds a distinct flavor and aroma to baked goods and can also be used in brewing beer or making wine.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
