So, what is flannel?
Flannel is a soft woven fabric typically used in specialty food preparation tools, such as coffee filters and tea strainers, rather than an edible ingredient. It is produced by weaving yarn into a plain or twill weave and mechanically brushing the surface with metal brushes to raise fine fibers. On food and beverage labels, flannel usually denotes the material of a reusable filtration cloth, steeping bag, or decorative packaging component.
flannel is possibly vegan because the raw fibers used to produce the textile can be derived from plant or animal sources. Flannel was historically made from wool, which is an animal fiber obtained from sheep. Contemporary flannel is frequently made from plant fibers, particularly cotton, or from petroleum-derived synthetics like polyester. Product packaging rarely specifies the exact textile composition of included accessories. A vegan certification or confirmation from the manufacturer is required to verify whether the fabric is free from animal wool.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
