So, what is fructan?

Fructans are a type of carbohydrate that are found in various plant-based foods, including wheat, onions, and garlic. They consist of chains of fructose molecules linked together, and they serve as an important source of energy for certain types of beneficial gut bacteria. Fructans are also known to have prebiotic effects, meaning that they can help support the growth of these beneficial bacteria, which in turn may help improve digestion and overall gut health. However, some individuals may have difficulty digesting fructans, which can lead to symptoms such as bloating and abdominal pain.

How to quickly find the source of ingredients like fructan?

We've built a database of 49359 ingredients (and growing), classified as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "maybe vegan".

We use it in our vegan ingredients scanner, which is the best way to avoid non-vegan ingredients - you take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
