So, what is laktoosi?

Laktoosi, also known as lactose, is a naturally occurring sugar found in milk and dairy products. It is composed of glucose and galactose molecules and is typically broken down by the enzyme lactase in the small intestine. However, some people may be lactose intolerant, meaning they have insufficient lactase to digest lactose, causing digestive discomfort. Laktoosi is commonly used as a sweetener and bulking agent in the food industry, and can be found in products such as baked goods, dairy products, and baby formula. However, lactose-free alternatives are available for those with lactose intolerance.

How to quickly find the source of ingredients like laktoosi?

We've built a database of 49359 ingredients (and growing), classified as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "maybe vegan".

We use it in our vegan ingredients scanner, which is the best way to avoid non-vegan ingredients - you take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
