So, what is lard?
Lard is a cooking fat that is rendered from pig fat. It is a versatile ingredient that has found use in both savory and sweet dishes. Its high smoke point makes it ideal for frying and sautéing, while its ability to add richness and depth of flavor makes it a favored ingredient in pastries and baked goods. Despite being high in saturated fats, lard is considered a healthier alternative to vegetable shortening due to its lack of trans fats. When used in moderation, lard can be a tasty addition to any recipe.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
