So, what is maltitolo?
Maltitol is a sugar alcohol commonly used as a sugar substitute in food products. It has a sweetness that is approximately 90% that of sugar, but with fewer calories and a lower glycemic index. Maltitol is derived from maltose, a type of sugar found in grains, and is commonly used in sugar-free candies, chewing gum, and baked goods. Unlike other sugar alcohols, maltitol is well-tolerated by most people and doesn't cause digestive upset when consumed in moderation. Maltitol can also help to improve the texture and flavor of baked goods, making it a popular choice among food manufacturers.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
