So, what is μαλτοδεξτρίνη?
Maltodextrin, or μαλτοδεξτρίνη in Greek, is a white powder commonly used as a food additive to enhance texture, flavor, and shelf life. It's derived from starchy foods like corn, rice, or potatoes by partial hydrolysis to break down the larger carbohydrate molecules into smaller ones. Maltodextrin is easily digested and absorbed by the body, providing a quick source of energy. It's also used as a thickener, bulking agent, or sweetener in various processed foods, such as sports drinks, candies, or instant soups. Despite being a popular food ingredient, some people may have concerns about its potential impact on blood sugar levels or allergic reactions.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
