So, what is mannit?
Mannitol, also known as mannite, is a naturally occurring sugar alcohol found in a variety of fruits, vegetables, and mushrooms. It is commonly used as a sugar substitute in many low-calorie and sugar-free products due to its sweet taste and low caloric content. Mannitol has a cooling effect when consumed, making it a popular ingredient in chewing gum and breath mints. Additionally, it has been used in the medical field as an osmotic laxative and as a treatment for glaucoma. Mannitol is generally recognized as safe by regulatory agencies, but large doses may cause gastrointestinal discomfort.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
