So, what is monokaliumtartrat?
Monokaliumtartrat, also known as potassium bitartrate or cream of tartar, is a white, powdery substance commonly used in baking and cooking. It is a byproduct of the winemaking process, formed from the sediment that settles at the bottom of barrels. Monokaliumtartrat acts as a leavening agent when combined with baking soda, and it can also stabilize egg whites and prevent sugar crystals from forming in syrups and candies. In addition, it is sometimes used in cleaning and personal care products. Monokaliumtartrat has a slightly acidic taste and is safe for consumption in small quantities.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
