So, what is morinda citrifolia?
Morinda citrifolia is the scientific botanical name for the noni tree, a fruit-bearing plant native to Southeast Asia, Northern Australia, and the Pacific Islands. On ingredient labels, this Latin designation refers to components sourced from the tree, most commonly its fruit, seeds, or leaves. It is widely used in packaged fruit juices, herbal tea blends, liquid dietary supplements, powdered drink mixes, and various topical cosmetic products.
To manufacture these ingredients, harvested noni fruits are typically pressed for juice, allowed to ferment naturally, or dehydrated and milled into a dry powder. The seeds can also be pressed to yield oil. Morinda citrifolia is vegan because it is derived entirely from a botanical source. The agricultural cultivation, harvesting, and standard refining methods do not involve animal tissues, animal byproducts, or animal-derived processing aids.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
