So, what is натуральный ароматизатор?
"Натуральный ароматизатор" is a Russian label term that translates to "natural flavoring" in English. It refers to flavoring substances extracted, distilled, or otherwise derived from natural raw materials rather than synthesized artificially. These additives are produced through physical, microbiological, or enzymatic processes from agricultural commodities. They commonly appear in a wide variety of Russian-language packaged foods and beverages, including teas, soft drinks, candies, baked goods, savory snacks, and ready-made sauces.
This ingredient is considered possibly vegan because regulatory standards allow it to be sourced from either plants or animals. Permitted plant sources encompass fruits, vegetables, spices, herbs, roots, and edible yeasts. However, natural flavorings may also be derived from animal sources such as meat, poultry, dairy products, eggs, seafood, or animal secretions. Because food labeling laws do not require companies to specify the exact origin of a natural flavor unless it contains a declared allergen, the packaging rarely provides enough detail to verify its status. A vegan certification on the package or direct confirmation from the manufacturer is required to ensure that the flavoring contains no animal-derived components.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
