So, what is nellike?

Nellike, also known as clove, is a highly aromatic and flavorful spice commonly used in both sweet and savory dishes. Native to Indonesia, it is harvested from the dried flower buds of the clove tree. With its warm, sweet, and slightly bitter taste, nellike is a popular ingredient in traditional holiday recipes such as mulled wine and pumpkin pie. It also has medicinal properties, as it contains eugenol, a compound known for its anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving effects. Nellike can be purchased whole or ground and should be used sparingly due to its potent flavor.
