So, what is paraffin wax?
Paraffin wax is a colorless, odorless, and tasteless waxy substance derived from petroleum. It has a low melting point, which makes it ideal for various applications, including food preservation, candle making, and cosmetic formulations. In food, paraffin wax is commonly used as a coating to prevent moisture loss and enhance shelf life. It is also added to chewing gum to give it a firm texture and increase its shelf life. Although it is generally considered safe for consumption in small amounts, excessive consumption of paraffin wax can lead to intestinal blockages.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
