So, what is phosphate?
Phosphates are natural compounds that contain the mineral phosphorous. In food, they are commonly used as additives for their unique functionality, which includes enhancing flavor, improving texture, and acting as a stabilizer or preservative. Phosphates can be found in processed meats, cheese, baked goods, and other products to help maintain their freshness and consistency. However, excessive consumption of phosphates has been linked to health concerns such as kidney disease and cardiovascular issues, making it important to keep intake levels in mind when consuming foods with this ingredient.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
