It is manufactured through chemical synthesis by bonding UV-absorbing chromophore groups to a polymeric siloxane backbone. The raw materials used to create this compound are derived from silica minerals and petroleum-derived chemical precursors. Although this substance is not a standard dietary food additive, it frequently appears on ingredient lists for lip balms, protective lip care products, sunscreens, and personal care cosmetics designed to offer sun protection.
This ingredient is classified as vegan because its synthesis relies entirely on mineral and synthetic sources. No animal tissues, animal byproducts, or animal-derived processing aids are utilized at any stage of its industrial preparation.
