So, what is puolukka?

Puolukka, also known as lingonberry, is a small, tart, and red-colored berry that grows on low, evergreen shrubs in the Northern Hemisphere. The name "puolukka" comes from the Finnish language, and it has been used for centuries in Scandinavian and Baltic cuisines as a key ingredient in sauces, jams, and desserts. These berries are a rich source of vitamin C, antioxidants, and fiber, making them a nutritious addition to any diet. Their unique tangy taste adds a delicious flavor to dishes, and their bright color makes them an appealing garnish as well.

How to quickly find the source of ingredients like puolukka?

We've built a database of 49359 ingredients (and growing), classified as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "maybe vegan".

We use it in our vegan ingredients scanner, which is the best way to avoid non-vegan ingredients - you take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
