So, what is rommi?
Romi, also known as African locust bean, is a traditional ingredient commonly used in West African cuisine. The legume is indigenous to the African continent and has a distinct nutty and slightly bitter taste, making it a popular flavor enhancer in stews, soups, and sauces. Romi is also prized for its high protein content and nutritional benefits, including its rich source of vitamins and minerals. The seeds of the locust bean are typically fermented, dried, and ground into a powder or used whole. Romi adds a unique earthy flavor and aroma to dishes and is a staple in many West African kitchens.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
