So, what is sacharine?
Saccharin is an artificial sweetener that is commonly used as a sugar substitute. It is derived from benzoic sulfonamide, and is about 300 times sweeter than sugar. Because it does not have any calories, it is often used in diet foods and beverages. Saccharin has a slightly bitter aftertaste, which is why it is often blended with other sweeteners. It is stable when heated, so it can be used in cooking and baking. Saccharin was first discovered in 1879, and has been used as a sweetener for over a century.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
