So, what is seitan?
Seitan, also known as wheat meat or wheat gluten, is a popular meat substitute in vegetarian and vegan cuisine. Made from wheat protein, seitan has a chewy texture similar to meat and can be flavored and seasoned in a variety of ways. It is a good source of protein and contains no cholesterol or saturated fat. Seitan is often used in dishes such as stir-fries, sandwiches, and stews, and can be found pre-made or made from scratch using wheat gluten flour. Its versatility and meat-like texture make it a favorite among plant-based eaters looking for a satisfying meat alternative.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
