So, what is sesbania flower?
Sesbania flower is the edible blossom of Sesbania grandiflora, a small leguminous tree native to tropical regions of South and Southeast Asia. The flowers, which can be white or red, are harvested directly from the tree branches and are used fresh, dried, or milled into powders and botanical extracts. On food labels, sesbania flower appears primarily in regional Asian food products like canned soups and prepared curries, as well as in dried or powdered forms within dietary supplements, herbal teas, and botanical blends.
This ingredient is vegan because it is entirely of plant origin. The production of sesbania flower involves standard agricultural cultivation followed by physical processing methods, including washing, sun-drying, mechanical grinding, or water-based extraction. Because these processes do not utilize animal ingredients, animal-derived processing aids, or animal byproducts, sesbania flower consistently meets vegan criteria.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
