So, what is smalec?
Smalec is a traditional Polish ingredient made from rendered pork fat, typically seasoned with garlic, onion, and sometimes apple or other spices. It has a creamy, spreadable texture and is often used as a substitute for butter or margarine in cooking or as a condiment for bread. While high in saturated fat, smalec is rich in flavor and adds a unique twist to dishes. It is also considered a cultural symbol of Polish cuisine and is commonly served as a snack or appetizer, often paired with pickled vegetables or crispy bread.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
