So, what is sperm oil?
Sperm oil, also known as spermaceti, is a waxy substance derived from the head cavity of sperm whales. It was historically used for various purposes, including as a lubricant for machinery and as a fuel for lamps. Today, sperm oil is mostly used in the cosmetic industry due to its moisturizing properties and ability to create a silky texture. However, the use of sperm oil has been controversial due to the impact of whaling on sperm whale populations. As a result, alternatives such as jojoba oil are often used instead.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
