So, what is tapioka?

Tapioca is a starchy, flavorless flour derived from cassava root, a plant that is native to South America. The cassava root is peeled, grated, and then soaked in water to extract the starch, which is then dried and processed into small, round pellets or pearls. Tapioca is a popular ingredient in a variety of dishes, including puddings, bubble teas, and baked goods. It is often used as a thickener and a binding agent, and can be used as a gluten-free alternative to wheat flour. Tapioca pearls have a chewy, gelatinous texture when cooked and are a fun addition to desserts and drinks.

How to quickly find the source of ingredients like tapioka?

We've built a database of 49359 ingredients (and growing), classified as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "maybe vegan".

We use it in our vegan ingredients scanner, which is the best way to avoid non-vegan ingredients - you take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
