So, what is whole oat flour?

Whole oat flour is a finely ground powder made from the edible kernels of the oat plant, botanically known as Avena sativa. It is produced by cleaning, dehulling, toasting, and milling whole oat groats. This milling process retains the bran, germ, and endosperm of the grain, preserving the complete structure of the kernel. Food manufacturers commonly use whole oat flour in baked goods such as breads, cookies, muffins, and pancakes, as well as in breakfast cereals, snack bars, baby foods, and as a thickener in soups and plant-based dairy alternatives.

Whole oat flour is vegan because it is derived entirely from a plant source. The standard industrial production methods involve only mechanical cleaning, heat treatment, and grinding of harvested grains. No animal-derived ingredients, enzymes, or animal-based processing aids are involved in its manufacturing or refinement. Because its sole origin is botanical, whole oat flour is completely free from animal components.

How to quickly find the source of ingredients like whole oat flour?

We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
