So, what is zwarte wortel?
Zwarte wortel, also known as black carrot, is a lesser-known root vegetable that's native to central and western Asia. Despite its name, the outside of the carrot is not actually black, but rather a deep purple color. When cut open, the flesh of the zwarte wortel reveals a vibrant orange color, just like a regular carrot. This vegetable is highly nutritious and packed with antioxidants, making it a great addition to any diet. Its earthy and slightly sweet flavor makes it a versatile ingredient in both savory and sweet dishes. Try using zwarte wortel in stews, salads, or as a natural food coloring agent.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
