So, what is hydrogenated oils?
Hydrogenated oils are a type of fat that have undergone a process called hydrogenation, which transforms them from liquid oils into solid fats. This process involves adding hydrogen molecules to unsaturated fatty acids, making them more stable and less likely to spoil. Hydrogenated oils have a longer shelf life than regular oils, which is why they are commonly used in processed foods such as baked goods, snacks, and fried foods. However, they have been linked to an increased risk of heart disease due to their high levels of trans fats, which can raise bad cholesterol levels and lower good cholesterol levels in the body. Many health experts recommend limiting or avoiding consumption of hydrogenated oils.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
