So, what is peptones?
Peptones are hydrolyzed proteins that are commonly used as a nutrient source in microbiology and biotechnology applications. These complex mixtures of peptides are produced by the partial digestion of proteins using enzymes or acid hydrolysis. Peptones can provide a wide range of amino acids and peptides to support the growth of microorganisms in a variety of media. They are particularly useful in the cultivation of fastidious bacteria and can also enhance the production of recombinant proteins in cell cultures. Peptones are available in a variety of forms, including animal-derived and plant-based, making them a versatile ingredient for a range of industries.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
