So, what is potato starches?
Potato starch is a fine white powder extracted from potatoes. It is a versatile ingredient that can be used as a thickener, binder, and stabilizer in various foods, including sauces, soups, and baked goods. Potato starch is gluten-free and has a neutral flavor, making it an excellent alternative to wheat flour for people with gluten intolerance. It also has a high gelatinization temperature, which means that it can withstand high heat without breaking down, making it ideal for use in foods that require extended cooking or baking times. Additionally, potato starch is a good source of resistant starch, a type of carbohydrate that resists digestion in the small intestine and feeds beneficial bacteria in the large intestine, contributing to gut health.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
