So, what is bha?
BHA, or butylated hydroxyanisole, is a synthetic antioxidant commonly used in food production to prevent rancidity and extend shelf life. BHA is a white or yellowish powder with a faint odor and is soluble in fats and oils. It is typically added to foods containing fats and oils, such as snack foods, baked goods, and cereal, in small amounts to preserve their freshness and prevent spoilage. Although BHA is considered safe by regulatory agencies, some studies have linked high doses of BHA to cancer in animals. Therefore, it is important to use BHA in moderation and follow recommended usage levels.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
