So, what is bht?
BHT, or butylated hydroxytoluene, is a food preservative commonly used to prevent the oxidation and spoilage of fats and oils in processed foods. This antioxidant is a white crystalline powder with a faint, aromatic odor, and is typically added to packaged snacks, cereals, and baked goods to extend their shelf life. While the safety of BHT has been extensively studied, some researchers have expressed concern about its potential impact on human health, particularly in high doses. Nonetheless, the FDA has approved BHT as safe for consumption in limited amounts, and it remains a popular ingredient in the food industry.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
