So, what is butyl oleate?
Butyl oleate is a food-grade ingredient commonly used in the food industry as an emulsifier, flavoring agent, and solvent. It is a clear, colorless liquid with a mild, fruity odor that is soluble in most organic solvents but insoluble in water. Butyl oleate is derived from oleic acid, a monounsaturated omega-9 fatty acid found in animal and vegetable fats and oils. It is used in a variety of food products, including baked goods, confectionery, dairy, and meat products, to improve texture, shelf life, and overall sensory appeal. Butyl oleate is also used in the production of personal care and cosmetic products.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
