So, what is cloruro de potasio?
Cloruro de potasio is the Spanish term for potassium chloride, a naturally occurring mineral salt composed of potassium and chlorine. It is extracted directly from the earth by mining mineral deposits such as sylvite and carnallite, or recovered from underground brine pools and salt lakes through evaporation and crystallization. Manufacturers can also produce it synthetically by combining potassium carbonate or potassium hydroxide with hydrochloric acid.
In the food industry, potassium chloride frequently functions as a salt substitute to reduce sodium content, as well as a stabilizer, firming agent, and nutrient supplement. It regularly appears on Spanish-language ingredient labels for processed foods such as canned soups, baked goods, seasoning blends, sports beverages, and plant-based meat alternatives.
cloruro de potasio is vegan because its origin is strictly mineral or synthetic. Animals and animal byproducts are not involved at any stage of its harvesting, mining, chemical synthesis, or refinement.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
