So, what is echalote?
Echalote, also known as shallot, is a small, elongated bulb that belongs to the Allium family, which includes onions and garlic. With a slightly sweeter and milder flavor than onions, echalote is a popular ingredient in French and other cuisines. Its distinct taste adds depth and complexity to a variety of dishes, from sauces and dressings to stir-fries and roasts. Echalotes are typically minced or sliced thinly and sautéed in butter or oil until caramelized. They also contain vitamins and minerals, making them a healthy addition to any recipe.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
