So, what is enriched pasta?
Enriched pasta is noodle dough made from refined wheat flour that has been fortified with specific vitamins and minerals lost during the milling process. It is typically manufactured by milling durum wheat into semolina, removing the bran and germ, and blending the resulting flour with water before shaping and drying it. Food producers use this ingredient in a wide variety of commercial products, including standard boxed dry pastas like spaghetti and macaroni, canned soups, and prepared microwave meals.
enriched pasta is vegan because its primary components and enrichment additives are free from animal sources. Standard dry pasta relies strictly on grain flour and water, without the inclusion of eggs or dairy. The micronutrients added during the enrichment process, which usually include iron, thiamine, riboflavin, niacin, and folic acid, are produced through chemical synthesis or microbial fermentation. Because neither the base grain nor the fortifying vitamins involve animal-derived inputs, enriched pasta is vegan.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
