So, what is ergisterol?
Ergosterol is a sterol that is found in fungi, yeasts, and plants. It is a precursor to vitamin D2 and is converted to this vitamin upon exposure to ultraviolet light. Ergosterol plays an important role in the growth and development of fungi, as it is involved in the formation of the fungal cell membrane. It is also used as an indicator of fungal growth in food and beverage industries, as its presence indicates the presence of fungal contamination. Additionally, ergosterol has been studied for its potential health benefits, such as its anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer properties.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
