So, what is fully hydrogenated coconut oil?
Fully hydrogenated coconut oil is a type of saturated fat that is made by adding hydrogen atoms to liquid coconut oil. This process converts the oil from a liquid to a solid form, making it a popular ingredient in processed foods like baked goods and snack foods. Unlike its partially hydrogenated counterpart, fully hydrogenated coconut oil does not contain any trans fats, which have been linked to negative health effects. However, it is still a high-fat, calorie-dense ingredient and should be consumed in moderation. Additionally, some studies suggest that consuming high amounts of saturated fats like fully hydrogenated coconut oil may increase the risk of heart disease.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
